Synopsis

With more than 20 years of experience in clinical biochemistry, with the last 15 years in biochemical genetics. Trained in basic biochemical genetics (Laboratory diagnosis) in Sydney, Australia and holds a PhD from University of Adelaide, Adelaide, Australia for research done on lysosomal storage disorders (Metachromatic leukodystrophy). Research interest includes genotype/phenotype correlation study for disorders in Inborn Errors of Metabolism (IEM), molecular genetics. Have a keen interest in method development and application of tandem mass spectrometry in the detection and screening for inherited disorders and  other related health sciences

Synopsis

 

I have over 10 years experience of collaborative research in environmental chemistry research areas. During the past 7 years I have started to focus more on environmental forensics niche area applying various chemical fingerprinting analyses namely mass spectral profiling and stable isotope analysis to source-apportion environmental contaminants in the environment. In 2012, I was appointed as a senior lecturer to teach environmental chemistry courses at the School of Industrial Technology, Universiti Sains Malaysia. In March 2014, while keeping my teaching position at the school, I joined the Doping Control Centre, now officially known as Analytical Biochemistry Research Centre (ABrC) to head their Stable Isotope Laboratory, overseeing daily operations as well as providing analytical services to various researchers in Malaysia. Recently, I have started to become involved in collaborative research with Malaysian Nuclear Agency and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) as well as teaming up with them to strengthen national technical capability in food traceability through application of nuclear and related technologies. I am passionate about knowledge, research and exploring the frontiers of science. I also love teaching especially when it involves environment-related courses. As an early-career researcher, I am willing and open to networking, collaborations as well as new opportunities to provide a good platform for myself and the university to reach greater heights in the world of academia.
