A New Dimension in Protein Separation

 

This technique provides an innovative two-dimensional protein electrophoresis method which provides comparable results to the conventional 2D-PAGE method, yet eliminating a lot of weaknesses and issues of the latter method. i2D-PAGE is relatively more resistant to salt contaminant and has at least 40% shorter analysis time. The strength of i2D-PAGE is separating proteins of similar molecular weights but different pI whereas for conventional 2D-PAGE, separating proteins of similar pI but different molecular weights. Following separation, options for subsequent analysis includes Coomassie staining, silver staining, protease digestion and mass spectrometry, allowing comprehensive proteomic analysis similar to conventional 2D-PAGE.
